from: Maintenance of Your Surfboard

Surfing will not be complete without a surfboard. Surfboards can be a little pricey; hence it is important that you treat your surfboard as a key investment. Ideally a surfboard should be replaced every six months. Yet contrary to this, most often only pro surfers can religiously follow this. Therefore, maintenance of your surfboard is vital to stay in good working conditions and extend its life. Investing the time and money to properly care for your board will extend its life and save you money in the long term.

A board sock can be as expensive as the surfboard. Nonetheless, investing in a $30 board sock is not a waste. Proper storage is one of the key requirements in the maintenance of your surfboard. This keeps the item protected against conditions that may cause it to wear untimely. A good maintenance routine is to place the surfboard in the board sock when not in water. Most often damages and scratches are incurred when transporting the item in places where you go.

Having the surfboard covered will make it look new even it is some years old. This is for the reason that external conditions like the sun and heat can terribly damage the surfboard gradually specially when not properly attended to.

One of the damages that the sun can cause to your surfboard is the fading to yellow and cracking. This will sooner or later trigger break and if you are unlucky this may happen while you are chasing the waves. Nobody would find it amazing to see you sinking in the waves as your surfboard break. Another is that heat can cause the paints to chip off from the board making it look untidy and old.

All damages start from a single and sometimes unnoticed dings, except if the item has been broken due to a large impact. It is important to repair even small dings as soon as possible. However, it may be necessary to wait until the swell of the board goes down so water is not trapped inside the board.

The wax is one last maintenance check that should be done. Periodically strip off the wax to check for dings and cracks under the surface.

Making quick fixes while the damage is small can save you a considerable amount of money. Aside from saving your face from embarrassment of sinking in the waves die to broken surfboard, maintenance of your surfboard can extend its service to you.
