from: Custom Paint Your New or Old Surfboard

Surfboarding can be one of the extreme sports that you can enjoy with the waves. As surfboards find themselves available in sports stores, one may find the same design of the surfboard which for some might be less pleasurable. You do not need to order a personalized surfboard, what you can do is to custom paint your new or old surfboard.

Many find themselves having their things personalized. From the bags, to the shirts, one can see a modified version of an item. This is for the reason that one wishes to create a unique identity of ones self. This is the same with surfboard. By doing custom paint on your new or old surfboard, you can personalized it to whatever design you want to do with the surfboard. Put some creativity, and viola! You have a new and personalized surfboard that shouts your uniqueness and special talent!

To start with, you might need to have the necessary materials needed to custom paint your new or old surfboard. A spray paint of your preferred colors, low sticks masking tape, a razor
knife and a bottle of clear acrylic sealant are the basic materials that you need. You may also add to the list a wax remover or paint thinner if you are repainting an old surfboard.

When modifying an old surfboard, you may need to remove the wax or the old paint with a wax remover or thinner, respectively. This will make the board smooth when doing the repainting and free from residues. Clean the surfboard thoroughly to have a nice canvas for the painting.

After this, you will have to pour out your hidden talents in painting that you might be deprived off when you are a child. Make an original artwork. After all, it is one of the basic reasons why you are doing the repainting. You may also apply bigger graphics to show off your work.

Be creative. It is said that art is an expression of one’s self. Therefore put your creative ideas through the brush. The next step is to tape your board from rail to rail all the way across and all the way down making sure to overlap the tape. This will give a tidy output since this will keep the paint from bleeding through.

Make your design on the tape and when done, sue a razor knife to cut the design. This will serve as the pattern for the paint to follow the design neatly. Make sure though that you do not make deep scratches on the board.

Another option to make a pattern other than using tape is to use a newspaper to cover the areas you needed to protect from unlikely paints sprayed mistakenly.

To blend the color well and make a clean output, start with light coats of color, drying each layer first before putting another layer or changing colors. If it would be possible, keep away from using heavy coats since this may lead to smudges and uneven smoothness of the art.

Before you peel the tape, check if the paint is already dry. Clear the coat by making three to four layers. Assure that each layer is done with the previous coat already dry before applying the next color.

The next thing that you can do is prepare your swimsuit and hit the waves!
