from: Surfboards for the Beginner

Surfboarding can be a very dynamic and exciting experience that one can engage in. But before you are able to do the tricks performed by professionals, you have to study how to ride the waves. The first thing that you need to have is the surfboard.

When you visit a surf shop, you might get amazed by the different kid of surfboards available for sale. Each type has its own performance rating and also depends on the skill of the rider. As you are a neophyte in the sports, you need to find the right surfboard for beginners.

Most surfboards are made out of foam to make an effect of buoyancy on the board. This will make it easier for the rider to catch up with the waves. Furthermore, these surfboards are usually hand shaped t expert shapers and materials used are foam and it is then coated with fiberglass sheets. It can also be hand-painted where it is airbrushed with pretty colors and design. If you want it to be personalized, you can request for the service to fit your specifications.

It is important that you make yourself familiar with the surfboard and the parts of it. This will let you get informed and save faced in case of ignorance. It does not matter what the kind of surfboards that you are going to buy, whether a shortboard, a longboard, a fish or a gun, most of the parts are the same.

From the front to the back the parts are in this order; nose, rails, deck, stringer and tail.

The nose is basically the front tip of the board. It can be rounded or pointed. When using a longboard, the nose can be noticed to be rounded.

Next is the rail. Rails are located at the end of the board. This run from the tail to the nose. The function of the rail is to grip the board. A rounded rail is called "soft", while a more squared off rail is called "hard".

The deck is the area of the board that rider rides on. As the main body, wax can be applied onto it for better footing grip. There are two types of deck, the domed deck and the flat decks.

The domed deck helps movement from rail to rail as the rider moves across the deck. The stringer is a strip of material that runs the length of the surfboard. Its main purpose is to strengthen.

At the end of the board is the tail. Shapes of the tail depend and each shape provides different performance for the rider. Also on the tail a surfboard leash. This is the cord that attaches a surfboard to the surfer. It avoids the surfboard from being swept away by waves.

Now that you are more familiar with surfboards, you can purchase the board that you need with the assistance of the store attendant. Enjoy surfboarding!
